The Unstoppable Collection

The only woman in her physics cohort at Zurich Polytechnic. Serbian. Four years older than Einstein. She walked with a limp, which, in 1896, was apparently reason enough to keep a woman out of science. Mileva Marić got in anyway.

In a 1901 letter, Einstein wrote to her: "I'll be so happy and proud when we are together and can bring our work on relative motion to a successful conclusion." Our work.

The original 1905 manuscripts were reportedly signed "Einstein-Marić." Historians still argue about what that means. Her name does not appear in the published papers.
